Whale Watching

So I was able to accomplish one of my life goals this weekend.  I have always wanted to see a whale in person before.  This isn't something that you can see every day in Florida where I grew up.  And definitely not something you see in New York City.  So I was excited to learn that when they migrate for the seasons, they pass by the coast of Sydney.  I think it might be something that coastal Australians take for granted because no one here really "got" my excitement over it.  And it was all I could do to get my Aussie to actually wake up at 6.30am with me on Saturday morning so we could drive to Bondi Beach and see them.  Bailey was more than thrilled to get up and go for a car ride.

So we drove out and parked the car at the house of our friends G. and S. and then headed out to the southern tip of Bondi Bay, just past Iceburgs.  The best time to see them is between 7:00 and 7:30 AM and we got there around 7:45 AM so I was worried that we missed most of the action.  But out of the corner of my eye I saw water spraying up into the air and we got to see about three different pods swim by.  They weren't that close in and I had to use maximum zoom on my iPhone to get some shots but it was still amazing.  I got a little teary-eyed.  It was just so stunning to see them finally and in such an incredible setting.

We followed up our whale watching at a nearby cafe and then popped in to visit our friends G. and S. for a little bit.  Bailey was in heaven and took a little snooze in their garden.  All in all, an excellent day to be grateful for.
